“Speed Racer” Draws Big Endorsements

Files under Entertainment | Comments Off

Speed Racer "Speed Racer" is said to be lining up at least $80 million in marketing support from promotional partners.  This is a children’s movie so I guess I expected as much but certain aspects of it does upset me.  It’s not like in "Talladega Nights" where they clearly mocked the fact that they were promoting products for their sponsors.  Instead, these campaigns will target little kids and, while I understand it, I have to draw the line when it comes to food.

Here’s the list of their planned partnerships

  • General Mills plans to put little ads for "Speed Racer" on the packaging of cereals, Betty Crocker cookie mixes, Old El Paso Mexican foods and more.
  • LEGO is creating four "Speed Racer" themed playsets.
  • Target will be the movie’s official retail partner.
  • Puma is designing shoes based on the movie.
  • McDonald’s will be peddling their boys and girls Happy Meals.

Ugh, did they have to include the Happy Meals?  I understand and I’m not one of those mothers who doesn’t allow her children to eat junk food but with childhood obesity on the rise, do we really need movies pushing McDonald’s and cookies on kids?  Just a thought…

Channing Tatum Cast in G.I. Joe Movie

Files under Entertainment | Comments Off

It’s being reported that Channing Tatum has been cast as "Duke" in the upcoming "G.I. Joe" movie.  Channing has been in "She’s the Man," "Step Up" and will appear next in "Stop-Loss" and "Fighting."

If you’re a regular reader, you might remember me going a bit overboard recently about the "G.I. Joe" casting news but I can’t help it!  I’m really excited!  In case you don’t know, Duke is the Joe Team’s first sergeant, and second in command.  His real name is Conrad S. Hauser and it’s a good role!Paramount plans to release the film on August 7, 2009.

Here’s a side-by-side comparison of Channing and Duke - could work!

Beyoncé Knowles Sings National Anthem at Super Bowl XXXVIII

Files under Celebrities | Comments Off

Beyonce on Oprah It’s almost Super Bowl time and I couldn’t help but think of Beyoncé Knowles‘ rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner at Super Bowl XXXVIII back in 2004.  She was on Oprah afterwards and talked about the experience:

"Even more so than the Grammys, singing the Star-Spangled Banner, the national anthem, has always been a dream. [As a child,] I watched Whitney Houston and I literally was in tears. And I grew up saying, ‘Mom, I’m going to do that.’…I actually did it! It was overwhelming. It was amazing, it really was."

Photos of Christina Aguilera’s baby

Files under Celebrities | Comments Off

christina-and-jordan.jpg

Boo hoo, no photos yet of baby Max. I wonder when Christina Aguilera is going to show him. I understand her need for privacy but it’d be really, really good to take a peek at baby Max. I am sure he would be gorgeous. I wonder if he’d take after Christina on the ‘voice’ side. Will he have a great voice like his mom?

What do you think?

Paris Hilton loves Dallas!

Files under Celebrities | Comments Off

paris-hilton-hottie-nottie.jpg

Good to know that Paris Hilton ‘gave her all’ when she visited Dallas over the weekend to promote her new movie, The Hottie and the Nottie!

One must hand it to Miss Paris Hilton: She gives the crowd what they want. After attending the Dallas premiere of her screen opus, The Hottie & the Nottie, at the Regent Highland Park Village, she headed to the afterparty at Ghostbar, atop the W Hotel. Arriving at the W, Paris braved the arctic chill outside the hotel to greet fans, sign a few autographs and pose for assembled camera crews.

Paris made a pit stop to her suite at the W to change from the little yellow dress she wore to the screening into a more party- licious sequined, blue-striped T-shirt with jeans.

Once inside the 33rd-floor Ghostbar, Her Hiltonness was soon dancing on the furniture to some-time friend Lindsay Lohan’s single “Revenge,” which features the name Paris Hilton repeated over and over, which was mixed in with Rick James’ “Super Freak.”

The Paris drink?

Rose’s Mojitos.

N9NE Steakhouse next door also sent over some Kobe sliders and rock shrimp.

Soon she was at the microphone. “I love Dallas!” she said with all the sincerity of, well, Paris Hilton.

2008 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Files under Entertainment | Comments Off

A few highlights from the 2008 Screen Actors Guild Awards tonight. Pictures courtesy of EOnline:

image The show started off with a bang! A mobster bang, that is. James Gandolfini and Edie Falco won for Actor/Actress in a Drama Series. Both commented that it’s been a great ten years working on “The Sopranos,” with Falco saying she’s “the luckiest woman in the world.”

The cast of “The Sopranos” also won for Ensemble in a Drama Series. Gandolfini handed the microphone off to Tony Sirico (”Paulie Walnuts”), who gave a heartfelt thank-you. Nice to see the whole cast together!

Javiar Bardem won for Male Actor in a Supporting Role for “No Country for Old Men.” Wow, take a look at his IMDB page sometime. His awards page is a mile long.

More show highlights after the jump!

image “30 Rock” scored two awards: Tina Fey for Female Actor in a Comedy Series and Alec Baldwin for Male Actor in a Comedy Series.

“The Office” won for Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Jenna Fischer accepted the award as the cast crowded onstage. She dedicated it to the unsung heroes in the biz — the behind-the-scenes crew that pulls everything together.

SAG President Alan Rosenberg spoke about the 75th anniversary of the Screen Actors Guild. Did you know he’s married to actress Marg Helgenberger?

Denis Leary honored Charles Durning, 84, who plays his father on “Rescue Me.” “Believe me, there’s nothing more humiliating than an 80-year-old man who knows his lines and your lines, when you don’t,” said Leary.

Burt Reynolds stumbled on stage and added to the Charles Durning kudos. “He is America’s finest actor, as far as I’m concerned,” said Reynolds. “And the most decorated soldier in World War II.”

Durning slowly made his way to the stage amidst thunderous applause. “That’s it?” he joked, as the applause subsided. Durning said he’s grateful for such a long and industrious career. He thanked his three children and wife Mary Ann, noting, “I’m living my dream.” Aw, sweet!

Mickey Rooney, 87, appeared on stage, and the audience stood and applauded wildly (of course!).  “You’re beautiful,” he told the crowd. “Thank you for all you’ve given me for so many years. It means the world to me.” He said he’s carried his SAG card — “and proud of it!” — for 74 years, and also paid tribute to his wife, Jan.

Rooney presented the award for Outstanding Female Actor in a TV Movie or Series: Queen Latifah (who wasn’t present).

Josh Brolin took the stage, grabbing a kiss wife Diane Lane threw at him. :) He presented a memorium for those who passed away. So many greats, ending with Heath Ledger.

Viggo Mortensen presented for Female Actor in a Supporting Role: Ruby Dee for “American Gangster” (her first nomination and win). She rambled a bit, but the crowd listened respectfully.

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey presented for Male Actor in a Leading Role. Those two are so sweet together. I’m really looking forward to their movie, “Fool’s Gold.” The winner: Daniel Day-Lewis for “There Will Be Blood.” He’s one classy guy, dedicating his award to Heath Ledger.

Forrest Whitaker presented for Female Actor in a Leading Role. The winner: Julie Christie for “Away From Her.” She commented that it was wonderful to receive an award from her own union, “especially at a time when we’re reminded how important unions are” (referring to the writer’s strike). She dedicated the award to Sarah Polley, writer and director of the film. “And if I’ve forgotten anybody, well it’s just that I’m still in character,” said Christie.

Tom Cruise presented the award for Ensemble Cast in a Feature Film: “No Country for Old Men.” Josh Brolin accepted, calling it a “risky movie.” When Woody Harrelson leaned forward and reminded him not to forget the Coen Brothers, Brolin said, “I’m taking my time, man, this is my frickin’ moment. So back off, Woody!” All in good fun…I think…

Cruise then gave a quick sign-off and it was over!
