We were extremely lucky to get to have a one-on-one chat with Domenico Nesci, the adorable, Speedo-wearing Italian from A Shot at Love and now his very own show, That’s Amore! Domenico, as usual, was full of charm, goofiness and he even offered to send us a pair of underwear! It’s not everyday that an MTV reality star makes such a gesture…
MTV Reality World: You were definitely my favorite part of A Shot at Love. How did you end up on the show?
Domenico: There was an audition on a website called LA casting… Sometimes we do things and we don’t know why we do it, so I applied for the audition and they called me and then I did the audition and, from what they said, I guess I impressed them with my personality. And that started everything from there. I’m an Italain, open-minded guy and it would be interested doing something outside my country.
When you were in the house on A Shot at Love, you were one of the biggest characters by a long shot. When you left, everyone was really sad to see you go. How did that make you feel?
It makes me feel like people understand me now, finally. It’s nice because when you are completely yourself and you don’t act like, “ok, i want to impress the guys” or “i want to impress the girls…” When you’re just yourself, that is the best compliment. Seeing them cry when I saw the episode made me cry too. I didn’t know that they were crying because I left and when I saw the actual episode, it made me really emotional because it was like, wow, those people they really liked me at the end. It was really good, especially because at the beginning, nobody really understood me except for Ashley.
Do you still keep in touch with anyone from the show?
Yeah, Bobby. Ashley every second day. He’s one of my best friends in this country. Dani sometimes. Michael B. We keep in touch. It was such a different experience and we need somebody to share the same thing so that’s probably why I still talk to them.
What did you think when MTV decided to give you your own show?
First of all i thought they were crazy. Second of all, I thought right away about love, about the fact that I need somebody in my life and I’ve been suffering in my life for a long time and now I feel like Im ready to go and give a chance to love again. Give a chance to have somebody next to me. That’s why I was excited about the idea because I was excited about the idea of loving somebody again.
Did you find love?
(long pause) I guess the show is really good and it will be interesting to watch and it’s starting March the 2nd.
Does that mean you can’t answer the question? (Laughing)
It will give away everything if I tell you the end. It’s a mix of a lot of things- not just a reality show. It’s a a soap sometimes or like a sitcom sometimes. It’s a mix of many elements to make that show. I don’t know, I went there with all my love hoping to find love. I’m really happy about the whole thing.
Did you meet a lot of great ladies?
I met fifteen different girls- all different from each other… all kinds of girls. The first challenge was to see who was there for me and who was there for TV and there were a lot of girls there for me and it made me really happy about it. If Tila was deep, this time was three hundred times deeper because this time it was me looking for love. When it comes down to love, it’s always something important. I didn’t want to make any mistakes.
Can we look forward to seeing more Domenico in his Speedo and his headbands?
Ok, I think that the good Jesus, when he made me, when the doctor took me from my mama’s belly, first he took out a headband and then the Speedo came out and then I came out. Since I was fourteen I was wearing headbands and weird Speedos. I remember last summer the show wasn’t on yet cause we were taping and I was going around the beach with my Speedos, with my Italian Speedos, and other Speedos and the people in Los Angeles made fun of me. You can see all the surfers with these long short pants and there was me with my little boogie board and my little Speedo on. People would pick on me but I don’t care, this is me.
Maybe that’s a new career option for you. You can be a Speedo designer. you can start a new trend.
Yeah, you know what’s funny? I got an underwear line coming out.
Where can people buy them?
We’re trying to start with an online thing and then we’ll put it in stores. We want to create… it doesn’t have to be ridiculous like my Speedos because my speedos are a little too much even for the Americans… We’re trying to create some underwear that can express people’s personality. They don’t have to be ridiculous. The have to be nice to look at and express people’s personality. They’ll be made it italy so they will be coming from my country. We’ll give you a certificate saying they’re made in Italy.
Do you have a name for them?
Not yet, we’re working on it.

(Laughs) That’s for sure! I will give you a present. First we’ll do a male and then a female underwear collection. I want you to have one, please.
Thanks- I’m counting on that now! What else is up your sleeve? Any other projects?
Just going around talking about the show and it’s really overwhelming, but I love it because I’m meeting a lot of people. When I am with people, I feel like I am a volcano. I get a lot of energy from people and I love it. Doing a reality show is like sending messages to people and this is a message of love and expression of feelings. If I have a chance to send messages like this again, I wouldn’t mind doing something else.
And the show premiers this Sunday?
This Sunday at ten o’clock on MTV. I really hope that the people will get the show. I promise you, I don’t think there’s been something like it on TV- not because I’m on it - I don’t care. I’m just honest, but I don’t think someone has put so much heart in a reality show this fast.
I think it’s going to be the new guilty pleasure show…
(Laughs) I don’t know what the guilty pleasure is, but i like pleasure!
Anything else that you’d like to tell the readers?
Be able to love and have somebody next to you because when you have someone to give you love, its the best thing in the world.
