Gilmore Girls Trivia: Lane & Rory’s Music

Files under Gilmore Girls | Comments Off

Another trivia question coming to a close. How did you do? Who was Lorelai’s first boyfriend?

  • Stanley Appleman 84 - 17% of all votes
  • Christopher Hayden 128 - 27% of all votes
  • Peter Cutler 142 - 30% of all votes
  • Brian Hutchins 127 - 26% of all votes
    Total Votes: 481

This one was tricky, yes? Well, the answer was Brian Hutchins. In Face-Off from Season 3, this is the discussion that Lorelai had with Rory about first boyfriends:

Lorelai: Okay, for starters, I think you have to realize something – you were really lucky with Dean. He was an exceptional first boyfriend, and you got spoiled. Most of us didn’t have first boyfriends like Dean. Most of us had first boyfriends like Brian Hutchins.

Rory: Brian Hutchins?

Lorelai: Seventh grade, I’m sitting in the library, walks up, asks me to go steady. I say yes. He walks away and I don’t see him again until the tenth grade when he tries to sell me a dimebag at the Sadies Hawkins Day dance. And he was way overcharging for it, too.

This next trivia question is from Kelsey:

What song did Lorelai make fun of Rory and Lane for liking as kids?

Gilmore Girls Video Column - Double Feature!

Files under Gilmore Girls | Comments Off

Gilmore Girls Video Column with Kelly
Video Reviews: Gilmore Girls Fights (Shut Up) / We Belong (Remastered)
Videos Created By: luvtheheaven / AudiRox
Added to YouTube: July 24, 2007 / January 5, 2008

From Kelly: So this week has two "videos of the week." I got a great suggestion from one of the readers, and I really like the video, so I’m featuring it here. However, since it’s by luvtheheaven, whose other video I just featured a couple weeks ago (and who has already had a couple videos featured on the site), I also wanted to add a second video this week to make sure that I included someone new. So here are your two video reviews!

Reviews from Kelly:

The first video, suggested by Mary Frances (thanks for the great idea!), is luvtheheaven’s "Gilmore Girls Fights (Shut Up)." This is such an entertaining and fun video to watch. I’m normally not a fan of videos made of entirely fast-forwarded clips, but this one is the exception. In fact, I don’t think it would have nearly the same effect if the video clips were at their normal speed, because the pace of the clips really fit the pace of the song. Plus, luvtheheaven uses such a wide variety of clips, from fights between all characters and from all the seasons. And definitely watch until the end, it ends on a very funny note.

The second video is one of my all-time favorites—"We Belong (Remastered) by AudiRox. What makes this video stand out is the editing, which is truly phenomenal. AudiRox has completely mastered the paneling effect (this video inspired me to try this effect in one of my own videos). The clips fit the beat of the song perfectly. My favorite part is around 2 minutes and 40 seconds (and also 3:10, which is similar), which has a great compilation of scenes. Somehow, by only showing these little slivers of scenes, the video forces the viewer to see the scenes in a different light, and it almost feels as if I were watching some of them for the first time. Definitely an amazing video, I can’t say enough good things about it.

Gilmore Girls Episode Recap:

Emily has prepared individual chocolate fondues for her and girls. Lorelai and Rory just want the marshmallows, not the fruit. Emily asks them to help her pick a ballerina to sponsor, as part of the fundraising. Lorelai and Rory get distracted by Gregorio’s photo because he is so well endowed.

Rory has a load of things to swap from her car to Lorelai’s - her way to move back bit by bit. The girls talk about the surprise baby shower they have planned for Sookie. They forgot, but are making up for it.

Kirk is upset about the 10 cent price increase on wheat toast at Luke’s. Kirk tries to negotiate, and wears Luke down to a five cent discount. The magazine featuring the Dragonfly Inn is now out, and Luke decides he needs to have new pants to go to the party in New York that will celebrate the edition. Lorelai nearly cried when she read the interview - it’s a big interview, and written as if she wrote it herself. The Emily parts… well, she expects men with tire irons to come after her for that. Luke suggests Lorelai show the magazine to Emily herself, to get it over with.

Taylor calls from next door to let Luke know that his purchase of the Twickham house is nearly complete. Luke keeps hush hush, since Lorelai doesn’t know.

Rory has taken charge at her internship. She’s organized, she knows everyone, and everyone seems to like her. Logan comes by to pick Rory up and jokes about the fire - Rory thinks he’s serious about an actual fire, not that he’s joking about her rush. Rory has her own cubicle too! Mitchum comes by and has Rory organize Logan too. Logan asks if Mitchum has been treating Rory well, which he has been.

It’s Honor’s engagement party on Friday, and Logan has invited Rory. It will be on a yacht. Rory hopes she can leave the Gilmore dinner early to be there. Logan has been missing "Ace", since she’s been so busy with the internship and her finals. Rory is hoping to get a summer job at the Stamford Gazette. Logan goes to hang out for a couple of hours until Rory is done her day.

Luke and Lorelai are in a limo on their way back from Manhattan; Luke "loved" the smell there, in that overpopulated island. Lorelai loves his rantings. Luke and Lorelai had great booze at the party, but never made it to the food. They are very happy though! Luke is drunk for the first time in a long time. Lorelai thanks Luke again for doing the "big city" thing with her. She promises more thanking later that night. They make out.

Luke and Lorelai wake up in Luke’s bed with their heads at the foot of the bed. Lorelai stumbles up and into the hall, finding clothes along the way. She has an "oh crap" moment.

Rory is late to Stars Hollow to decorate for the baby shower. She got the decorations from Doose’s, so they are pretty much crap. Rory notices Lorelai’s mood, and Lorelai says it was just a little thing. Sookie comes storming out of her house, ready to give birth to the baby! Sookie is sad to hear they were throwing the baby shower. Rory is cringing witnessing Sookie’s contractions. She keeps her eyes closed and is quite sickened. Rory has no plans to go to the hospital, she’ll go back to Yale instead.

Taylor calls Luke again to say that someone has put in a competing offer on the Twickham house. Someone with "vast" resources, willing to put the deposit in cash. Taylor says he "tried" to keep it for Luke, as promised. Taylor says the fellow townsman is willing to put down $250,000 in cash. Luke has Taylor say who it is, then hangs up. Luke then goes to Kirk and asks where he a quarter of a million dollars. Kirk says he’s been working for 11 years and has saved it all - that, with interest, has created his savings. Kirk says the Twickham place is perfect for him and Lulu.

Kirk seems privy to information about Luke’s credit situation. Luke owns various real estate properties, but has little cash flow. And with that, may not be able to swing more than 5% down. Kirk says his deep pockets got him the info. Luke wants Kirk to back down, but he won’t. He’s the biggest customer at the Stars Hollow Bank, which trumps Luke’s oldest customer card. Luke faults Kirk for complaining about the price of toast, then Kirk puls out $100 and asks for a couple of donuts. Luke goes to Taylor to demand to see the town elders, who control the town assets.

Jackson and Sookie haven’t yet finalized a name for the new baby, but Jackson is not worried. Whatever they don’t use they can save for the "next one." Lorelai pulls out an apple, to the surprise of Sookie. Sookie doesn’t mind that Lorelai is eating in front of her, but the whole apple thing comes as a shock. Lorelai asks Sookie about when she knew for sure she was pregnant. And how long after the conception that was. Sookie says weeks, but is definitely intrigued by the question. Lorelai passes it off as just a passing wonder, being in a maternity ward and all.

Lorelai stops a passing doctor to ask about pregnancy tests. She wants to know how soon after sex a test can predict. The doctor says two weeks. Lorelai asks,

"Not two days?"

Lorelai goes on about how dangerous it would be to buy a pregnancy test in her small town. Lorelai tries to ask if there is a "machine" that could tell her now. Lorelai talks about her craving for the apple, which she had with Rory too. The doctor admits the apple could be a sign.

Emily calls about her new ballerina - the ballerina, named Pola, now sitting in her living room. The ballerina found Lorelai’s old magic 8 ball, and Emily wants to know if she can keep it.

Lorelai calls Rory, anxious that she is using protection to "prevent something from coming ’round the mountain." Lorelai wants details from Rory, but she’s in the dining hall. All she’ll say is that she doesn’t just leave it up to the guy. Rory notices that Lorelai is very on edge, and Lorelai admits she might be pregnant. Lorelai admits that "all roadblacks" were down after the party the other night. Rory says it doesn’t mean anything, but the mention of the apple and liking the apple makes Rory go "whoa."

Rory says it wouldn’t be so horrible. It’s Luke, and things are going well. Lorelai says it’s still early for them, and with the Inn, with the new potential opportunity, and with Rory just moved out - Lorelai feels like a grown-up single woman for the first time ever. It doesn’t feel like the right time. If it’s true, Lorelai is not sure what she’d do.

Mitchum is early for a meeting that Rory is setting up. Lorelai calls to say that Sookie had a girl. No name yet. But, 14 hours of labor are over. Lorelai tells Rory that it was a false alarm - she’s not pregnant. Rory and Lorelai both sound very relieved. They reschedule Sookie’s baby shower for this Saturday. Rory then asks if Lorelai had told Luke about the pregnancy scare - Lorelai says no. She thinks it would have made Luke bolt.

Jackson wants to name the new baby, and brings up again about the "next one." Sookie tells Jackson that he’s getting a vasectomy. And she’s not kidding about it. Jackson wanted four, and Sookie wanted two. But she’s had enough. A nurse comes in to take Jackson down for the procedure - Sookie had it booked for that day! Sookie then names the baby - first name Martha, middle name Janice-Lori-Ethan-Rupert-Glenda-Carson-Daisy-Danny - all the names they wanted.

Emily has exchanged her ballerina for another one. Pola is out, Mikhail is in. Pola began to annoy Emily. Emily is quite smitten with her new purchase. Lorelai has her magazine there to show Emily, but hasn’t brought it out yet.

The Stamford Gazette staff meeting is talking about hiring reporters vs. freelancers. Mitchum suggests getting students for free - they "jump" at the chance. The meeting adjourns soon after and Rory stays behind to see if Mitchum needs anything. Mitchum tells Rory he’s pretty much done with setting up the paper and will be pulling back. Rory says she’s happy to keep going there, even without him. Mitchum says they haven’t talked about how Rory is doing, and she’s keen to hear what he has to say.

Mitchum tells Rory he’s worked with a lot of new hires and has a good gut sense for people’s strengths and weaknesses. Whether they have that "certain something" to make it in journalism.

"It’s a tough business. A lot of stress. I have to tell you, you don’t got it… Now, guts can be wrong. Mine’s been wrong before. But not often."

Rory thought she was doing ok. Mitchum thinks Rory just doesn’t have the drive to put herself out there. To dig for the story. He uses the meeting as an example - Rory didn’t speak up even once. Mitchum says it doesn’t matter that she’s an intern.

"You see, in the real world, it’s not always good enough to do just what’s asked of you."

Mitchum agrees that Rory is competent, smart, and terrific at anticipating needs. He says she’d make a great assistant. Mitchum apologizes for displeasing Rory. But, he says it’s healthy. He doesn’t B.S.

Rory excuses herself with difficulty. Mitchum tells her that he may have just done her a big favor. Rory says thanks and leaves. She walks away like her world has just fallen apart.

Kirk and Luke are in the steam room arguing with the town elders about the Twickham house. Kirk is arguing legal standing, since the house wasn’t officially up for sale. If listed, he’d have the best offer. Luke tries to argue, but he’s not comfortable in the steam room, and Kirk interrupts him continuously. Luke ends up insulting the elders a few times, and tries to fall back on his oral agreement with Taylor. One of the elders argues in Luke’s favor, because he wants it more. Because they watched him pine for and win Lorelai, and will bring children to the house. They decide that Luke should get the house.

Emily has been in intense conversation with Mikhail, but eventually decides to know what is in the bag Lorelai has been carrying. Lorelai admits it’s the cover story. Emily reads it and notices that the review is a rave for the Dragonfly. Lorelai is steeling herself for Emily to notice the references to herself, and decides to leave the room while that happens. Lorelai goes to Richard’s office and hears Emily screaming "oh my God". Emily seeks her out in the office, but Lorelai locks the door. Lorelai tries to apologize through the door. Emily agrees to stop reading the article and to never talk about it again. Mikhail runs out of the dinner.

Rory arrives to the yacht, having skipped her Friday dinner. Rory thinks she’s interrupting Logan with a girl, but the girl is married. Logan is being put on the defensive by Rory, who then asks if he even wants her there. Rory is creating a bit of a scene, so Logan takes them to a quiet spot to talk. Rory asks if they can go somewhere else - that she’s not in the mood to be around people. Rory points to the water and says she wants to go far out there.

Logan points out that the party is on their yacht. Rory complains about that - she doesn’t want to drive or fly anywhere, she wants to be on the water with him, alone.

"You know the beginning of Moby Dick, when the narrator says that when
he finds himself growing grim about the mouth and wanted to knock people’s
hats off, he takes to the sea?… Well I feel like knocking people’s hats off."

Rory points to a yacht near them and says:

"That one looks good."

Logan points out that it’s not theirs to take. Rory says that never stopped him before.

"I think I’ve been a bad influence on you, Ace."

"Let’s go, Huntzberger."

Lorelai is explaining her interview to Mikhail, who got the wrong idea about Emily from the Stalin reference. His family had been all killed by Stalin. Mikhail agrees to stay.

Lorelai gets a call from Rory. Lorelai asks Rory when she’s going to get there.

"Mom… you need to come and get me."

Silence. The episode ends.

Gilmore Girls Episode Recap:

Lorelai bought a Roomba for herself and for Rory, and they are separately watching the pink vacuum robots clean their respective rooms.

Paris comes in singing Walking on Sunshine for the millionth time, much to the annoyance of Rory. Paris is just really happy. Doyle calls her his girlfriend with no visible shaking. Rory is glowing about her Logan relationship too. He shows up then for their date, and Rory takes him past the ogling Paris to her room. Once in, Logan mocks Paris for being in love with Doyle. Rory says it’s good when Paris is happy - the alternative is not as pretty.

Rory is trying to decide what to wear to her first day on the internship. She’s very excited. Rory admits to Googling Mitchum last night - 12,053 items came up. Rory knows more about Mitchum than Logan does now. Rory tries to ask questions about Mitchum’s politics and his reading habits - to know more about this "born journalist." Logan, unfortunately, only ever talks to his father about sailing or about not meeting his potential. He just knows that Mitchum doesn’t like peas. Rory makes note to read up about wine and Haiti, topics Mitchum has covered before.

In class, Rory is surrounded by books on wine and Haiti, which draws the attention of one of her professors. Rory says her interests are "teasingly diverse."

Lorelai calls Rory to see if she’s returned the blue sweater. Rory just says "oh no," knowing that Lorelai changed her mind about it again. Rory has returned a lot of clothes for Lorelai of late - the capri pants more than once. And ’sales final’ items too, which makes her feel "retail simple." When Lorelai mentions Rory’s free afternoon, Rory realized she hadn’t told Lorelai about her internship. Lorelai tries not to sound weird when she hears that it’s from Logan’s dad, but instead congratulates Rory.

The mannequin horse has fallen on Taylor in the museum. Kirk came to tell Luke two hours ago, but Luke didn’t rush straight over. Luke points out that nobody came by in those two hours - the museum is a bust. Luke leaves him under the horse while suggesting that Taylor sell the place to someone who really wants it.

Emily is picking up tennis again, which pleases Richard (for the outfits). Rory gets asked about her internship, and her grandparents are pleased that Mitchum asked her without Logan’s influence. They think Rory’s reputation preceded her. Rory mentions a dinner with the Huntzberger house in passing, and Emily freaks out about missing the social window to reciprocate and invite Logan to their house. They panic about how quickly they can invite him over. They insist Rory call Logan right away.

Rory calls Logan to drop the news and to let him know she didn’t encourage the invite, nor did she call him the "b word" in any way. Rory apologizes for the pressure this puts on them. Knowing the odds are against skipping it, Logan is in. Logan then hits his window in a joke that the carrier pigeon just slammed into it.

Lorelai asks for Luke to save some pie for Rory, who is coming back to sleep in preparation to get up at 2am to go hear Lane play. Except, Lorelai will hear the alarm and Rory will not. So, Lorelai will need to wake up Rory, who will go out looking like a "Neutrogena ad" and Lorelai will be too tired to go back to her bed and will have a fitful night on the couch. Luke casually mentions the museum closing when a mannequin goes by the window. Lorelai seems sad about that.

Rory brings Lorelai back the sweater, and Lorelai is not so thrilled with it again. Rory bans Lorelai from shopping in New Haven. Rory tells Lorelai about Logan being invited to dinner. Lorelai seems uncomfortable about that.

At 12:30, Lorelai jumps into Rory’s bed and tells her she wants to go to dinner. She is upset at not being invited to the Logan dinner. Lorelai thinks she has first dibs on getting to know Logan. Rory says that she has to call Emily if she wants to come to dinner. Lorelai isn’t happy with that, but those are the conditions.

Rory shows up for her internship in a smart suit. She’s a little nervous, but the secretary points her in the right direction. Rory has to call out for Harry to find him. He helps with the interns. Rory is bubbly and excited, and apparently forgot her pencil. Rory goes to the coffee room while Harry is called off. Then pulls out her camera phone to take a picture of herself.

Rory is one of the few people who actually knows Huntzberger, since it’s his first day in the paper too (having just bought it). Rory says "yes, sir", she’s ready to shadow Mitchum, but then loses him when she puts her coffee down.

Lorelai wills herself to call Emily. Emily thinks it’s a prank call until Lorelai finally has the courage to say hello. Emily points out the coincidence that Lorelai wants to come to the Friday night dinner that Logan is coming to. Emily says Lorelai does not get to cherry-pick her dinners.

"If you come to this dinner, you come to them all. That’s the deal."

Emily says that if Lorelai shows up on Friday she will assume Lorelai’s Friday’s for the foreseeable future are free.

Rory discovers her shoe choice was not practical, so carries her heels around as she runs after Mitchum. Rory tries to make a joke / reference to Mitchum’s past as a runner at Yale, but it falls short. A door closes on Rory and she’s not sure if she’s supposed to follow. Rory calls Logan for help. She feels like a spaz. She didn’t even know if she was supposed to take lunch, she just stood in the break room and ate an Altoid. Rory asks Logan for something to say to connect with Mitchum. He mentions a few things, including that Mitchum switches to defac after 4pm. Rory is worried that Mitchum will be disappointed in her. Logan says that her name would have to be Logan for that to happen.

Luke has made Lorelai a gourmet dinner, though he says "it’s nothing." Richard calls Lorelai to say that someone from the Durham Group called him asking if he was Lorelai’s father. They own boutique hotels. And they know about the article coming out in American Travel about the Dragonfly. Lorelai seems upset to hear the article is coming out. The whole thing means that Lorelai is an "up-and-comer" and that Mike Armstrong, of the Durham Group, wants a meeting with Lorelai. Perhaps to offer her a job. Richard is "quite proud" of Lorelai.

Later, Luke points out that things can’t really get worse with Emily. And he fishes about the potential job - Lorelai casually talks about selling the Inn and being a consultant. Lorelai says she’s not interested, but Luke seems upset by it. Luke suggests, after, that Lorelai take the meeting anyway, for networking.

Richard has been thinking that the Huntzbergers are soon to go to Martha’s Vineyard, and Emily talks about their functions there. Including weddings. She’s keen on that thought. Richard suggests it’s time for them to get a place for an extended family. Perhaps in Cape Cod. Be ready for the next generation - or perhaps a wedding, Emily suggests.

"Picture his blonde hair and her blue eyes on a little baby."

They are both giddy. It’s Lorelai at the door, and that’s a disappointment to Emily. She has Richard go sit with Lorelai, but then immediately recalls him.

Logan and Rory show up to dinner - Logan came prepared with hostess gifts. He asks if Lorelai will be cool, and Rory says she will. Rory asks about the hostess gifts, and finds that Logan has brought a third trinket, one belonging to another rich person. He has no time to explain. Emily and Richard gush about how perfect Rory and Logan are. And everything Logan says or does is perfect.

Emily seems to snub Lorelai when Logan comes in, then interrupts Rory to formally introduce Logan herself. Then seems to "forget" what Lorelai drinks, thinking it’s a sidecar not a martini. Emily then excuses Lorelai for not having the "certain eye" to appreciate Logan’s lapels.

Lorelai asks how far Logan lives from Rory, and he says about 90 Kropogs, which gets a laugh from Emily and Richard. A Kropog is the height of an old Yale student, and it’s a fun joke still at Yale to measure things in Kropogs. Richard forgot to pass Lorelai her drink, so Emily goes to get it. And places an onion in it, not an olive like Lorelai specifically asked.

The conversation is boring Lorelai. From Yale to tennis, she feels outside the conversation. Logan offers to "set Emily up" with someone to make her a new tennis racquet. And nobody has offered to fill her drink since earlier in the night. Emily talks to Lorelai like she’s two, saying she’s acting like she’s never been there before.

While Emily & Richard are getting dinner finalized, Logan tries to smile to Lorelai about the dinner sounding good. On the way in, Logan stops Rory and tells her about the Life & Death Brigade business to steal one knick knack from a rich person’s house, and to leave in its place a knick knack stolen from another rich person’s house. Lorelai hears and sees the theft. Logan says nobody ever notices, when Rory calls him crazy.

Emily comes out and notices right away that her antique sewing box is missing. Lorelai shakes her head at Logan. Emily gets even more confused when she sees a lighter in place of the sewing box. Emily is accusing the maid of stealing the trinket, so Lorelai says she found it. She holds out her hand to Logan to give it to her. Rory looks extremely guilty.

Logan gloats about Rory’s success at the paper - having more pieces printed above the fold than anyone that year. Richard calls them a power couple. Emily brings up Martha’s Vineyard and how lovely it is there for a wedding. And talks about how nice Cape Cod is for weddings as well. Emily tells them they would look "awfully cute" in Cape Cod. Emily asks about the kids in Logan’s family, and Logan admits the extended family has been procreating a lot recently. Emily asks Logan if he likes kids. And gushes about how kids love Cape Cod. Lorelai tries to change the subject by saying internships are a communist plot.

Logan and Rory make for the door, and Emily interrupts Lorelai as she tries to say her goodbyes. Lorelai rolls her eyes listening to Emily and Richard fall all over themselves complimenting Logan. Lorelai immediately gets mad at her parents for all the heavy hints about weddings and babies and Cape Cod - they are still young and figuring things out. Lorelai says it’s too much pressure. Richard & Emily are overjoyed with the match and think Lorelai is biased by her own feelings. Emily sarcastically says Lorelai is not comfortable around those "type of people." Lorelai thinks that’s a snide remark at Luke.

Lorelai tells Richard & Emily they are busy marrying Rory off into a family that was not even nice to her. Lorelai tells them that the Huntzberger family treated Rory like trash and that the internship is Mitchum buying Rory off. Richard argues that Rory got the internship by making a contact, in the same way Lorelai is with Mike Armstrong.

Emily & Richard are so unwilling to see Logan as anything but perfect, and anything but perfect for Rory. They don’t care that Rory was kissing Logan at their wedding in the back room. And they won’t hear when Lorelai brings up the sewing box. They suggest Lorelai go home, perhaps having one too many "sidecars."

Rory is waiting for Mitchum with coffee - her whole bearing is more confident. When Mitchum looks at his watch when offered the coffee, Rory points out that it is decaf. So, this time when Mitchum goes into a private room, he invites Rory to follow.

Sookie has Mannie working in her kitchen, so she can supervise him in creating dishes for the Dragonfly. Lorelai says that Mike Armstrong has called twice since their meeting and is open to buying the Inn or investing in the Inn. They could stay to run the Inn, or consult and travel the world. But, as exciting as that would be, Sookie has a family. Sookie says it’s something Lorelai could do, though. Sookie asks Lorelai what’s stopping her. That makes Lorelai pause.

Gilmore Girls Movie Odds

Files under Gilmore Girls | Comments Off
The WB Networks' Gilmore Girls 100th Episode Party - Arrivals
Image details: The WB Networks’ Gilmore Girls 100th Episode Party - Arrivals served by picapp.com

Well, as much as this is reliable, and it’s not. And as much as it’s a guess, which it is. I like to report every bit of Gilmore Girls Movie news.

So, when somebody asked Ausiello what he thought the odds were of Amy Sherman-Palladino pursuing the Gilmore Girls Movie now that The Return of Jezebel James is done, this is what he said:

Your guess is as good as mine. For the record, my guess is in the neighborhood of 40-1. I imagine Team P has a fair amount of wound-licking to do before they dive back into TV.

What do you think? Are the odds good? I agree that Amy and Dan have hit such a harsh ending with Jezebel James, one at such a stark contrast to Gilmore Girls, that they will need to really build up some confidence again before returning to work. That, or perhaps they will want to dive in right again to prove themselves. Who knows? But, I hope a Gilmore Girls movie happens some day!

Dreams of Lauren Graham in Office Spin-Off?

Files under Gilmore Girls | Comments Off

Michael Ausiello is kicking up the dust around Lauren Graham’s failed NBC deal and suggesting that Lauren Graham be considered for the new Office spin-off as the ‘female version’ of Michael.

Well, regardless of whether she’s currently on the Peacock’s payroll, I love your idea, and I think Ben Silverman and Greg Daniels would be insane not to at least consider Graham for the gig.

If you too think Lauren Graham should return to television in a comedy role like this one, Ausiellos is asking that you use his discussion thread to leave your comments. I am not sure it’s as great of a role following Gilmore Girls, but I’d love to see Lauren Graham back on regular television. What do you think?!?

Speaking of dreams, here are some photos of Lauren Graham from back on March 24th filming The Dream of the Romans in Philadelphia.

  • Was Rory ok just being friends?
  • Was Rory presenting an ultimatum?
  • Do you think Logan wanted an excuse to be only with Rory? Is he ready for it?
  • Why is the kitchen so unprepared if Sookie has been planning everything to take time off for the baby?
  • Do you think Rory wanted to go to the Huntzberger dinner?
  • Why does Paris want to go into medicine if she doesn’t like sick people?
  • Do you think Lorelai is unhappy that Rory is dating Logan? Why?
  • Why does Logan’s family assume Logan is serious straight off?
  • Why do they disapprove of Rory? Is it her upbringing, her family name, her ambitions?
  • When Logan talks about "marrying the heir of the Huntzberger fortune", was that a slip to his true feelings? Or, simply a way to explain it?
  • Do you think Sookie was being too protective of her kitchen?
  • Is Logan rethinking his relationship with Rory? If so, why?
  • Is Rory letting Logan walk all over her?
  • Does Mitchum believe his family acted badly by saying what they did because it was untrue or because it was badly timed?
  • Why does Mitchum apologize?
  • Should Rory accept the internship?

Gilmore Girls Episode Recap:

Rory wakes up on the bathroom floor with a lovely hangover. Paris is suffering too. Kirk is having a sugar hangover, not quite the same thing. Lorelai has tacos and fries to cure the hangovers. Rory sarcastically thanks Lorelai for leaving her on the bathroom floor all night. Lorelai said she tried to get Rory up, but she kicked her.

"It was very House of Daggers but with vomiting."

Lorelai says Paris was the talk of the town. She attacked the pretzel cart and the police were called. Rory wasn’t happy seeing herself that way either. Lorelai asks about all the stuff Rory was babbling. Rory doesn’t remember everything she said about Logan. And avoids even bringing it up this morning.

Rory pays a visit to Logan, still in her clothes from the day before. Logan asks about the octagon imprint on Rory’s face, but Rory cuts him off and tells him she can’t do this anymore.

"This casual dating thing. I don’t like it. It’s not who I am, and I don’t want to make it who I am."

Rory knows they talked about it and it’s not his fault. Logan thought it was going well, but Rory said he hadn’t called for a week. She cuts of his explanation and tells him he doesn’t owe her one, he’s not her boyfriend. Rory says she doesn’t want to be one of the many anymore. Logan’s roommate tells him there’s a girl on the phone, but Logan says to take a message. Rory is done with the conversation, though Logan is confused.

"I’m a girlfriend girl, Logan. I have boyfriends, not escorts."

Rory says she can’t be different, she thought she could be. Rory suggests they be friends. Logan takes the offensive and questions sarcastically that maybe they can become girlfriend or boyfriend, thinking it’s an ultimatum. Logan is pacing the room. Rory is now confused and too hungover to argue. Logan comes over and says:

"Ok, fine, I’ll do it… I’ll be your boyfriend."

Rory says he can’t be her boyfriend. That he told her that he couldn’t be. Logan insists to Rory that he can do this, despite all her arguments to the contrary. A girl then comes by to get Logan to buy her lunch, but Rory excuses them to finish up. Logan cuts off Rory’s "I can’t" with a question:

"Rory, do you really want to stop seeing me? Because I don’t want to stop seeing you."

Logan won’t let Rory put in another "but", and tells Rory he wants to do this. He proves it with a kiss. Rory knows he can do "that", and she wants to believe him. Logan says it’s a new start. Rory goes home to change before they go out for lunch. They are both grinning from ear to ear, and Logan jokes that he thinks he’ll be an excellent boyfriend.

Paris returns to her dorm and finds Doyle in her bed. He’s very sick and has been there all weekend. Not avoiding her like Paris thought. Paris freaks out when he asks her to put her hand on his head, and backs out of the room.

Sookie has been put on bed rest. Lorelai offers to take notes on what needs to be done for dinner, but it’s over her head. Lorelai says it’s ok, and takes Michel to go sort out the kitchen staff. Lorelai finds the rest of the staff is there for the prep work and desserts - no main meals or sauces. That was all Sookie. Lorelai calls Luke in her panic, asking how pretty he thinks she is. He’s coming right over.

Rory is feeling a bit better now. Logan has enjoyed watching people freak out about the mess of food she ate - mashed potato, mac & cheese, biscuit, gravy combo. Then they go back to Logan’s to look up info for a movie. A girl is waiting for him. Logan goes to hug her - her name is Honor. Rory starts to get the wrong idea, but Logan introduces Honor as his sister.

Honor is now engaged, to long-time boyfriend Josh. She’s there to ask Logan a favor. She wants to tell her parents at dinner tomorrow and needs Logan there for support. He owes her a favor after the year-off-school-boat-sinking fiasco she helped bail him out of. Logan has been smiling at Logan, and he has been smiling back. Honor turns to get a better introduction, and Logan chokes out that Rory is his "… girlfriend". Honor laughs, since Logan has never called anyone a girlfriend before. Honor wants Rory to come to dinner as well.

Later, Rory assures Logan doesn’t need to bring her to dinner. She understands it’s a family thing. Logan wants her there - that boyfriends bring their girlfriends to dinner.

Luke says he can handle the ducks. There is a folder of Sookie’s notes. Lorelai just hugs Luke for helping.

Paris has called her Nanny to come take care of Doyle. Doyle was hoping Paris would take care of him, but Paris says she is. She got Nanny. Paris says sick people freak her out.

Sookie calls to check in on Luke and to get him to double strain the duck sauce. She sounds stressed. Lorelai asks Sookie where the applications are from the culinary institute for her temporary replacement. Sookie plays dumb about them. Lorelai later has to call to get the applications re-submitted.

Lorelai hears a noise at home and takes a pillow to defend herself with. But, it’s just Rory home to get her blue dress. Rory has something to tell Lorelai, but she cannot say a word about it. Rory says she and Logan are boyfriend & girlfriend and she needs her dress for dinner at his parents house. Lorelai scowls funny, but keeps her mouth shut.

Rory tells Lorelai how it happened, but silences her from saying anything. Rory says she’s happy with how things are going, despite a rocky start, and thinks that Lorelai will be too in time. Lorelai hugs the pillow to keep from saying anything.

Luke is enjoying his time in the kitchen. Sookie calls to say she tasted walnuts in his bechemel - Luke wants to know how she’s tasting the food. Luke realizes that someone on staff is sneaking Sookie food to taste. Luke catches someone coming back with a tupperware and tells the staff the food cannot leave the premises. Luke tells Sookie her kitchen will be there when she gets back and hangs up.

Rory goes to her room to put her blue dress away and finds Nanny cleaning her bed. Hearing about Doyle, Rory points out to Paris again that she’s pre-med. Rory tells Paris about Logan’s turnaround to commit when presented with the alternative. Paris says Rory landed the whale - she’s Annette Bening. Rory says it was all about getting Logan to focus on the situation.

Rory gives a ‘wow’ to Logan’s house. Logan is very clearly nervous. He’s worried the family will get viscous after hearing about Honor’s engagement. Rory says her Friday night dinners have prepared her well. Honor comes outside to say it’s iceberg city in there. Rory just remembers a time when Lorelai wore a shirt with a rhinestone penis and Emily had her car towed.

Rory is in awe of the interior of the house as well. Logan’s father is not there yet, but his mother and grandfather are. Logan introduces Rory and reminds his mother they know Rory’s grandparents. Rory tries to break the tension with small talk, but it is an uncomfortable room. Mitchum is going to be late for dinner, so they decide to start without him. Honor apologizes to Rory and Logan for getting them into this. Rory stops to admire a Velasquez before heading to dinner.

Luke has added lamb chops to the menu on a whim. He loves the kitchen crew. Luke notices Pedro going upstairs with a ladle, so follows. Sookie is upstairs with food all around her. Food that has gone missing all night. Luke tells Sookie she will not interfere anymore.

Logan’s grandfather is not in a good mood. His mom goes to take a stress smoke. The grandfather starts in on the "serious matters" or their "important family" and on "marrying into it", not content to wait for Mitchum. Honor looks freaked out, thinking she and Josh are about to be lectured. Logan jumps in to defend Honor and Josh, and Honor speaks up too. Logan’s mom says of course they’re going to get married, as if it were not a surprise or an issue.

Logan’s grandfather continues his discussion about "unsuitable people marrying into this family", while looking at Rory. Logan is confused at being attacked with that. With the accusation of him forgoing his "responsibilities to this family." Logan’s mom is sure Rory understands. Rory wants to be a working girl, to travel and be a journalist. Logan’s mom says a girl like Rory has no idea what it takes to be in their family. That she wasn’t raised or bred that way - that it’s "not" about Lorelai, but just that they come from two different worlds. The grandfather tells Logan it wouldn’t work for him, and wouldn’t work for the family.

Logan tries to interrupt, but his grandfather starts to wag his finger at him and say that Logan will be taking over the company and he needs the right kind of person at his side when he does. His mom gushes about a girl she liked for Logan. Logan gets up to leave with Rory. His mom yells after that it was unexpected that he was coming home with a girl he calls his girlfriend - that they had to take it seriously. Logan ignores her.

Rory is outraged and confused. She’s a Gilmore, don’t they know that? Her family came on the Mayflower, she had a coming out party, went to Chilton and Yale. Logan says there is no reason for it. Rory asks why Josh is not being criticized.

"Josh isn’t marrying the heir of the Huntzberger fortune, you are."

Mitchum comes home just as Logan and Rory are bailing out. Logan presumes that Mitchum knows why, but he seems not to. At least, not totally.

Doyle is feeling much better and thanks Paris for being his lifesaver. Paris hesitates and says it’s time they talk about their relationship. She withholds the Nyquil as her bargaining chip.

Jackson comes in fuming at Luke. He yells that Luke will listen to Sookie and will feed Sookie if he has anything to say about it. And will kick Luke’s ass if he does otherwise, unless Luke has killed him first. Luke runs after Jackson but sees Lorelai first. He tells Lorelai he’s had enough. He tells Lorelai about Sookie and Jackson. Lorelai missed it all, but asks Luke what he’s going to do.

Luke angrily yells he’s going to do nothing, since he’s in a relationship with Lorelai. All he can do is come out and yell and pretend he has a leg to stand on, then go back to the kitchen to keep cooking. Lorelai lets him continue his rant and pats him on the back.

Lorelai goes upstairs to the room Sookie has taken over. They aren’t there anymore, instead Lorelai finds them in the cart driving through Stars Hollow. Jackson is mad at Lorelai by extension, but Sookie asks him to stop. Lorelai tells Sookie that she is not resting - the restaurant is not her job right now.

Sookie admits she hadn’t thought any applications were good enough. And she even admits Luke did a pretty good job with her food. And she loved his lamb chops, has taken some home to study. Lorelai suggests they use Mannie as her temporary replacement, given that he’s already in the kitchen and is well trained.

Logan looks catatonic and drops Rory before she gets to her room. Rory tries to calm him down, but he needs to walk and clear his head. Logan says he’ll call Rory later. Rory asks if tomorrow, and after a pause he says yeah.

Luke is exhausted. While he’s near sleep, Lorelai tries to get his recipe for the lamb chops. No go.

Rory calls Lorelai to talk about how horrid dinner was, that they hate her. Lorelai says nobody hates Thumper. Rory thinks the Huntzbergers think she is trash. That the Gilmore name is not good enough. Lorelai agrees that is crazy, and that them jumping to the marriage conclusion was crazy too. They said all these things at the dinner table in front of her. Rory is annoyed at herself for just sitting there and taking it. Lorelai is happy that Logan stood up to his family, but Rory is worried that they were quite all the way home. Rory thinks he’s rethinking it all now and may want to bolt.

Lorelai asks if she can say something Rory may not want to hear. Lorelai says maybe Rory should let him bolt - that he’s not a commitment guy. Rory says that she is good for Logan, that he can change. Lorelai reminds Rory about how upset she was on the bathroom floor, wondering what she had done to make Logan not call her. Rory, who can do better than that. Lorelai asks Rory if that’s the kind of relationship she wants to be in. Rory seems to be considering it. There is a knock at the door. It’s Logan.

Logan says he’s sorry. Sorry for taking off - that was overreacting to an intense evening. Rory says there is nothing to forgive. Logan asks Rory to get her coat so they can go for dinner. Rory goes back to her room and asks Lorelai if she heard all that on the phone. Lorelai’s face is falling but Rory says she just got upset about nothing. Rory says she heard her, but has to go.

Paris tells Rory that Doyle had been dumped two years ago very badly, and Paris is his first girlfriend since. Doyle has admitted they are now in a committed relationship. Paris can now call herself Doyle’s girlfriend.

Mitchum Huntzberger comes to see Rory at the Yale Daily News office. Mitchum apologizes for how his family behaved. Logan may have been naive to walk in with Rory, but Rory deserves an apology. They were wrong.

Mitchum asks Rory about her journalistic aspirations. He says they just bought the Stamford Eagle-Gazette and that he has an internship available. Rory says no, and looks a little disgusted. He boldly asks why, and Rory admits she believes him to be doing it out of guilt. Mitchum says "so what?" Isn’t it still an opportunity? It shouldn’t matter why she got it. He says life is about making the most of things that you are handed. Rory smiles to accept the internship. He leaves, telling Rory to bring a pencil. Rory looks confused.
