It’s birthday month for Mary-Kate and Ashley and summer is nearly here! To start of summer right, the girls have compiled their June hip picks for you!

Mary-Kate suggests watching National Lampoon’s Vacation while Ashley would rather munch popcorn while watching Don’t Tell Mom the Baby-sitter is Dead.

To be fashion-forward this summer, Mary-Kate suggests picking up Elizabeth & James’s Dazed demin shorts. Ashley prefers the Bardot pant. I’m sure you can find room for both in your wardrobe.

Ashley’s last purchase was vintage furniture whereas MK’s was studded Minnetonkas. But MK’s current obsession of the moment is Beverly Hills 90210 on DVD and Ashley’s is Annie Hall. Maybe that explains her menswear look at the CFDA Awards?

To end the summer theme right, MK listens to 90s pick Automatic for the People by REM, but Ashley spins Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morrisette.

Mary-Kate Olsen will be on the cover of the July issue of Elle. They have the cover story online, which you can read here.

There’s some great quotes from Olsen friends in the article too, ike this one from Diane Von Furstenberg:

“Mary-Kate is fragile yet strong. She’s an old soul in a very young girl. Hers is a story that has just begun.”

The also talk to Karl Lagerfield about why he’s such a fan of MK and Ashley, and Lauren Hutton, who is a muse for the girls.

There is also a behind-the-scenes video and photo slide show. The photos are absolutely gorgeous! They feature the Marc Jacobs headband she wore a little while ago, which explains what photo shoot she was at at the time.

I’ll have to get the magazine to see the real spread! The website says the magazine is on newsstands now, so be sure to check it out.

This is a music video for the song “The Olsen Twins Song.” The premise of the video (and the song!) is that this “normal” dude spent a week in Vegas with the girls and they did all the vulgar and inane things one is supposed to do when one is in Vegas–sex, drugs, rock and roll.

I’ll admit, I got the chorus (I spent a week in Vegas with the Olsen Twins…) stuck in my head for a bit. Not cool!

Ashley Olsen looked stunning as she arrived at the CFDA Awards in a men’s style tuxedo from the Resort 2009 Chanel collection. It’s definitely a brave fashion choice, but a sweet one. Yves Saint Laurent passed away this week, and Ash is clearly paying homage to his Le Smoking Suit.

Ashley spent most of the evening with one of her fashion inspirations, Lauren Hutton. Lauren Hutton was the model for the Spring 2008 The Row Look Book and did a photo spread with Mary-Kate for her Harper’s Bazaar cover.

Mary-Kate didn’t attend the event. All the tabloids have been reporting she’s been having a rough time lately. While I tend to take those reports with a grain of salt, I do hope she’s okay and it’s just other commitments that kept her away.

Ashley Olsen was spotted looking simply gorgeous at the LAX airport on May 31. She caught a flight to NYC in time to attend the pre-CFDA Awards dinner last night. She was only in LA for the weekend, long enough to promote her and MK’s new book Influence and get her nails done.

I love the scarf, skinny jeans and white jacket combo she’s rocking. See the photos here.

Mary-Kate Olsen was spotted on May 30th out and about in Hollywood. She opted for her second flowy white ensemble of the weekend, but this time paired it with a black skirt, bag and heels for a more dressed-up feel.

I guess MK caught a flight today to catch up with Ashley in time for the CFDA dinner. I wonder what the girls will wear! Last year, MK wore Elizabeth & James while Ashley wore the Row. Think they’ll wear their own designs again this year?

Ashley Olsen looked simply radiant as she left the CFDA dinner in NYC last night. She seems so healthy and happy lately, it’s wonderful to see!

The CFDA Awards are tonight and both Ashley and Mary-Kate are expected to attend. No word on why MK wasn’t at the dinner last night with Ashley, but she must be busy with other people and/or projects! Between launching a new jewelry line, promoting The Wackness and promoting their book, these girls are insanely busy!

The NY Post spotted Ashley Olsen on another date with Justin Bartha.

Before Ash returned to Los Angeles for BookExpo America, the couple attended a birthday party for Ashley and Mary-Kate’s publicist, Nicole Caruso.

“They arrived arm-in-arm and were inseparable,” a source told the paper.

However, the couple didn’t stay long. They sung “Happy Birthday” to Nicole, wished her the best and quietly slipped out of the party.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen spent the weekend at BookExpo America, promoting their book Influence, which is being published by Penguin Young Readers in the fall.

A launch party was held in West Hollywood for the book, and over 70 booksellers attended to get a sneak peek.

“It was the first party to launch the book, and we just wanted booksellers to know that we’re really excited about it,” Mary-Kate told USA Today. “We worked so hard on it.”

Influence will be $35.00 and should be on newsstands in October. The book will have two different covers, one with Mary-Kate on the front and Ashley on the back and another with Ashley on the front and Mary-Kate on the back.

Apparently, Ashley isn’t the only Olsen twin that Lindsay Lohan has issues with.

According to NYD News, Lindsay nearly threw a fit when she thought that rumored girlfriend Samantha Ronson invited Mary-Kate to a the MenStyle.com Women of Fashion party.

“Lindsay thought Samantha had invited Mary-Kate Olsen to the party, and she was peeved,” a source told the mag.

Despite the fact that MK didn’t even show up at the party, Lindsay refused to leave her hotel room the entire night.

This seems like a silly rumor, but I think Lindsay probably is a moody girl. How much truth do you think is to this story?

Mary-Kate Olsen spent her Friday afternoon getting a manicure and a pedicure at a nail salon in Beverly Hills. I really like the casual white dress she’s wearing, it’s perfect for a sunny summer day.
